Murder Machines: Pursuer and Inquisitor

Fellow Pilots,
There's breaking news: you can finally play the mode of your choice on both iOS and Android.  Vote with your feet!  As you know, I like Domination, but as long as I don't have to play FFA or TDM, all is well in the world.

Here's the new look:

Pixonic says wait times might be bad.  We shall see.  At introduction the average wait time for me (champion league) was 22 seconds for BR or DOM, and 30 seconds for TDM or KOTH.  I think the selections will again show us which modes people prefer, and this won't be kind to KOTH.  In fact, if you are a Hydra pilot, I think you can safely mothball those weapons, because nobody is going to want to see you in TDM either.  I hope.

Moving on to new business!  If you don't use Discord, Line, Skype, or some other communication tool to play War Robots with your friends and clan mates, you are missing a VERY rich linguistic experience.  You will hear swearing and strategy, praise and criticism, and every imaginable pronounciation of "Haechi" and "Tulumbas."  You get all of these and more, in languages you didn't even realize were out there.  My favorite part of voice communication, though, is the humo(u)r.  When Pursuer was new, I was in a game with my clan mate and fellow professor, Sir Francis Beacon.  As he executed the signature Stalker move of circling a slower robot while blasting away, he inquired, "are YOU my mommy?"

Now, any time I jump in the Pursuer, I ask the same question.  I want to get close to the enemy, because this robot is an absolute murder machine.  In fact, that's what I call it.  The Gust Pursuer is now officially "The Murder Machine."  TM/All Rights Reserved, et cetera.  We've been looking for an answer to the plague of Spectres, and this little guy is definitely a contender.  However ...

Upgrade Costs Are Insane
Pursuer can be obtained easily: about 25M silver and four days in Workshop 2.0.  Unfortunately, it then takes two months and 170M silver to upgrade to level 12.  Add 500Au and double the time/silver for MK2/12.  These are astounding numbers, courtesy of the new/recession economy.  In real dollars, it would take you almost exactly $1000 in gold/silver costs to instantly maximize your murder machine.  While NO ROBOT IN ANY GAME IS WORTH THAT KIND OF MONEY, Pursuer is incredibly fun to play and as good at getting a couple kills as anything I've ever used.  Here's three, a Kumiho - Inquisitor - Bulgasari wipeout in a two minute sequence.

Edit 1/29/2019: Professor Duke Dutch has a GREAT video utilizing Pursuer against Ares (among other things).  Enjoy!

The Big Murder Machine
is, of course, Inquisitor.  As a fellow Redditor recently opined, it's the granddaddy of them all in FFA because it can withstand so much more punishment than the Spectre.  I'm torn, but either of them can get you a kill in a pinch.  In this sequence, the red team fails to get me away from their travel lanes, and they pay the price.  The video also features Pursuer, again knocking out enemies left and right.

Finally, it's good bye to my friends in Aurora Nova.  The War Robots University is now a stand-alone entity with two three clans and its own Discord server.  Watch for us on the battlefield, and send us a message if you would like to run and gun with a great bunch of people.

I remain your humble servant and combat medic,
Doc Yat

  1. I think many pilots (at least here in the Amazon server) underestimate what a well-played Inquisitor can accomplish. Most use it as a suicide bot, usually only getting a couple kills. It is a very hard bot to master (get caught out in the open without your descend and you might as well write out a hasty will) but once you do, it is so rewarding.

I use mine with a classic DB setup but have also used the scourge/ember build with good success. Great for killing spectres who think you're an easy kill and make an ill-suited jump directly at you, whilst you calmly jump away and proceed to reduce them to scrap metal once their stealth runs out.

  2. That is the main problem with the new workshop. If you only play a couple battles a day, because of school or work you are unable to get the necessary silver. Otherwise it is good. Do you prefer Skirmish to the other battle modes, or are they unable to be compared?

  3. Given the rise of the stealth ability, do you think the meta will move towards the immobilizing weapons?

Shields (physical and ancile) led to high damage-per-second weapons. This led to the dash bots, which was countered by locking energy weapons.

I'm currently making components for Shredders, Pulsars and Inquisitors in my workshop.
