Wednesday is for What Beacons?

Fellow Pilots,
In one of the University's first posts, "How Long Is A Battle?" we shared the following:
  1. If one team captures all five beacons and holds them, the match will end in under three minutes.
  2. If one team captures four beacons and holds them, the match will end in under five minutes. New research: it's usually closer to four!
  3. Most likely: one team captures three beacons and the other two.  This battle will end in about SEVEN MINUTES.  If you've been staring at three red circles for five minutes, the battle is nearly over.  You need to get out of that sniper and into the action.
Because most battles aren't salvageable if the enemy grabs four or even five beacons, you can usually play with the third case (a seven minute match) in mind.  Today, I'm trying to get good video on the Dreadnought map for a piece about tactics, and I haven't been able to land there.  But I am getting matches where the reds seem to have forgotten victory condition #1 - capture and hold the beacons.

So, for your viewing pleasure, here's a match on Dead City that lasts just over 4 minutes.  If you don't do anything else on this map, you MUST hold BOTH side beacons on your end of the field.  BOTH.  Not one and center - BOTH.  If you have both, you can THINK about center and flanking to the left.  If you don't, get them back.  Pronto.

Similarly, here's a match on Shenzhen that lasts 4 minutes.  In "Flanking Maneuvers," I wrote in detail about encirclement on this map, so I won't rehash it here.  Summary: take both sides and smash your enemy as they attempt to leave their home street.  If you can do this, it's one of the most satisfying beatdowns you will ever give!

If you play urgently when it comes to movement but patiently in engagements, your teammates will appreciate it and buy you beer.  And so will I.

Until tomorrow,
Where y'at?, phD
