Titans and Platinum: The New Trick Is An Old Trick

Fellow Commanders,
In December 2019, those of you "lucky" enough to be playing War Robots at level 30 received a free "gift" from Pixonic.  Your new Titan, slow as molasses and dumb as a rock, appeared in your hangar and a new currency showed up at the exchange.  No matter what existing resources you had at the time, you could only get platinum using real money - and lots of it.

In a great surprise to, well, no one, Pixonic created a new P2W game element.  To get your Titan all the way to level 150, you need seven thousand in platinum (that's not a typo - 7000), or the equivalent of one thousand US dollars.  In the UK, thanks to the value of the pound, it's even more.  And that's the Titan by his own dumb self.  Weapons cost more.  Of course.

Are people going to fall for the old trick?  Uh, yeah!

(There are still some really stubborn chiselers who don't buy anything.  Ever.)

The U has a recommendation for you - use the "free" Kid at entry level and save the platinum.  Pixonic is doing what it does, which is squeezing the big spenders at every opportunity, and what we can reliably predict is that it will happen again ... and again ... and again.  You can buy Arthur or Ao Ming now, but they will introduce something stronger just as soon as they believe the market will bear it.  While the Titans currently lack upgradable modules and pilots*, they can be killed by regular bots with relative ease.  Don't commit your resources now; thank the U later!

*Thanks, Mark, for pointing out that a previous version of this post incorrectly said the Titans lacked modules!

Leeches Suck

Pun intended.

Loki: Extended Use Review

I've had a Loki in my hangar since its release, as I won it on the third spin of its introductory event.  As you know, I have a love affair with speed and this robot is consistently FUN to play.  Gusts and/or Halos are recommended due to the close proximity of most victims.  Using the Armor Expert pilot skill along with the event skin provides 20% more health, and I've got two armor modules stacked on top of the requisite Last Stand.  It's an extremely tough "out" for most opponents as long as you use cover and stealth to avoid bots with Quantum Radar.

Thanks to its speed and ability, Loki is a great beacon runner.  But that's not where your bread is really buttered.  Get behind your opponents.  Take your weapons out.  Wait two seconds, and then let the fun begin as you pop them from behind.

Chill behind red spawn point on Yamantau:

Or Springfield (after grabbing all four blue beacons in one big loop):

Track down the doofus in the Spydra Ares without getting killed by his teammates:

Obliterate him while he focuses on your buddy:

Get the other camper, a Tulu Spectre.

Marvel at your luck as they keep spawning in your bread basket (same guy as the Spydra Ares - he REALLY should know where you are):

Guess not.

Find a Leech:

Freeze and kill said Leech:

They can run, but they can't hide.

The astute reader will note that I was trying a Sinister Rime at different points in the Loki test.  It's great, but I don't really have the silver for it.  Stick with shotguns, especially if you already have them levelled up.

War Robots University Loki guidelines:

  1. Make it as tough as possible.  The Armor Expert pilot skill is a steal even if you have to pay 1000 Au, as it's better than the Heavy Armor kit costing 5000 Au and 200M Ag.
  2. Don't throw it away by running to the first contested beacon and trying to take down a Phantom.  Patience.
  3. Find mismatches, like sniper bots at close range.
  4. If you have the element of surprise, draw your weapons - shotguns are strongly recommended - a couple seconds before firing.  This will allow you to holster and run as soon as you need to escape.
  5. Utilize Road Hog and Adamant Road Hog for additional speed.  Nothing changes a close game faster than threatening the enemy home.

Until next time, I remain your humble servant ...

    1. Hi BW! I broke down and used my Platinum saved since December (After winning an Ao Ming and two Tsars in event chests). I think the modules are the best use for this currency ... the best use for the currency in your wallet is DEFINITELY not War Robots!!
