Please accept my sincere apologies for the absence of fresh fodder on this blog over the past week or more.  I've been doing what people do when friends are in town, and it turns out I live within driving distance of a certain circle of standing rocks:

Anyway, it might be a little slow here in weeks to come as well.  The faculty of the U is trying to figure out what to make of this:

Basically, it there are many more things we can buy, albeit temporarily - more health, more silver, more damage.  These boosters "stack" (have an additive quality) when you play in a squad.  So that pod of killer whales with the Shocktrain Spectres will do many times more damage, be harder to kill, and earn more resources while they wipe you off the map.  Sounds great, right?

A not-secret about me: I'm not a "real" gamer.  I've never spent money beyond the initial purchase price of a game, had an online account, or customized a machine to play games.  So War Robots is a very new experience for me.  And Update 4.0 includes some very significant modifications to the game.  Dash robots were a total game changer, to be sure, and the switch from hangar to rating based matchmaker upended the world as we knew it.  Boosters are less sexy, but my preliminary view is that they will increase inequality by a large margin.  We already know that free or low cost players can't compete with whales.  What to do??

As long as we have rating-based matches, tanking will be the answer for some people.  It's uncool and degrades the game for new players.  Don't.  Self-limiting, however, is a different animal.   Start a new account and level your stuff up to six, and you can probably remain in the lower leagues indefinitely.  This account belongs to my oldest son, but I appropriate it for academic use every now and then:

Don't be this guy - once your equipment hits level 10, you can and should compete at the higher levels.  There are many people who have attained Champ league with level 10 stuff (but probably not a Destrier.  That's not something you should level up!).

The lower leagues are FUN, but there's a lot of bombardment going on ... time to eject and get a different robot!
