How To Report Tanking

Fellow Pilots,
Please skip this post if you are not interested in TANKING, CLUBBING, CHEATING, and other unethical practices related to War Robots.

At the U, we don't take cheating personally.  In fact, we understand the motives for it.  Winning against "whales" and their clans is nearly impossible.  Imbalances exist because only a few players are able to afford the extremely high prices for in-game purchases.  With that said, exploiting the inequality between experienced and inexperienced players is not the answer.  It's unfair to the newbies, bad for the game, and repugnant to true competitors.

It took us a while to start reporting tankers because it takes some effort.  You need to get screenshots, fill out the form, and upload the evidence.  But it is VERY simple, and we've created a guide.  The whole process can be done on the device with which you play the game.

Step one: Catch a cheater in the act

We like to include a screenshot of the destruction, the battle results, and the profile, but this isn't all required.

Here's "Shako DL" in the act of destroying all his robots.

Same thing, different battle.

When he's on the red team, I win.

And again ... but now he's on my team.

So we lose.

The profile reflects many trophies from ending seasons as a "champion," but as you know, Shako DL isn't a champ - he's a cheat.

Step Two: Use the reporting form

NOTE 21 June 2019 - Report tankers in game.  The Google Doc is no longer functional.  All you need is the Pilot ID and your screenshot(s).

Team Tanking

Ever wonder why you sometimes win a fifteen second battle against a team that doesn't arrive?  It's a squad dropping their rating together by losing as a group.  This is SUPER efficient because it only takes them fifteen seconds per battle.

Just in case you were laboring under the illusion that these guys were NOT falling as far as they could ...

We've proposed solutions in previous posts, but a less obvious one bears repeating here: if you lost fewer league points in a defeat (like 1-2 for the people in last place only; the others would remain level at 0), it would take a really long time to tank.  The effort might no longer be worth the reward.  As it stands today, it's too easy to fall in the rankings, and there's no strong reason for such volatility.  Instead, give the top two winners a couple points, give the bottom two losers a minor penalty, and keep the average players where they are.

As stated above, the U doesn't hate tankers, or want to hurt them (as suggested by a Redditor).  We just want them to play the game fairly, because it's a team game.

Your humble servant,
Dr. Yat

  1. That's all well and good but unfortunately the reporting doesn't seem to result in any punishment for the tanker. A month ago I reported a guy for tanking. Yesterday I check out his profile and lo and behold not only is he now a member of one of the most notorious tanker clans on Android, he is still doing it as evidenced by an impressive 0 damage and 0.0 destroyed bots in the last 50 games.
Only now he has farmed enough silver in bronze and silver league to mk2 his dashbots, so apparently tanking is working out great for him with no negative consequences

    1. Ugh - this is always a possibility, and it's a real problem because people like you and I will stop taking the time to fill out the reports. I have relayed your concern directly to Pixonic via the content creators Discord server and hope to be able to let you know that they are addressing the issue. Thank you!

  2. One thing that I think would help with tankers/cheaters/trollers would be to have a pilot rating. After the battle, you could rate whether a pilot did played well, by adding a point to his rating, or say whether he trolled/cheated/straightupdestroyedhimselffivetimes. Then this pilot rating would be a sort of multiplier for the silver he gets from each battle. The lower his pilot rating, the less silver he gets, regardless of his league.

    1. Yes but then you will have morons down voting the top guy on red just because they lost no matter if it was a fair fight or not

  3. Lars might be right, but generally speaking I like the idea. "Upvoting" and "Downvoting" (like Reddit) could help give meaningful feedback about battle behavior. Trusted contributors could serve the same function if it wasn't available for everyone.

  4. Over a three month period I have made 11 complaints to Pixonic using their tanker report form about the same serial tanker. This idiot has 2 hangers full of 5 MK2 Level 12 Dashbots all with maxed out MK2 level 12 weapons like Shocktrains etc. This moron lives in the lowest bronze league (Bronze III) and Pixonic haven't done a thing about this player! Pixonic is lying when they say that they don't support tankers.

The reality is that Pixonic LOVES tankers and it's a huge part of their business model. When you first join War Robots even if you don't do anything in a battle you get positive points until you hit Silver III league. At that point Pixonic has already got you to invest money into a few relatively low cost bots and weapons so you feel like you have invested a lot of time and money into the game.

Without tankers you would be a happy War Robots newbie slowly working your way up the leagues and loving the game but Pixonic has learned that a happy player is not a good revenue source. Pixonic's secret weapon to turn newbies into revenue sources are tankers. Tankers cause everyone who isn't cheating to become extremely frustrated and the only way to go from a frustrated player to a happy player is to buy Pixonic’s ridiculously expensive prices for the best bots and weapons.

Pixonic could easily fix all of these issues by returning to matchmaking that is based on the bots and weapons in a player’s hanger rather than a league based matchmaking. The league based matchmaking specifically allows cheating (tankers) to drop down to the lowest leagues and easily earn 10 gold per match as the highest scoring player.

Pixonic are nothing but a-holes for changing from an awesome hanger based matchmaking gameplay to a chaotic (cheating is allowed) league game based gameplay purely because tens of thousands of happy War Robots customers don't make them as much money as tens of thousands of frustrated customers.

    1. I don't know anything about the business models of mobile game companies, so I usually decline to speculate about who is or isn't an a-hole. What I do know is that some Pix employees have the job of dealing with the tanker reports by hand. This needs to be automated, and like you, I would like to see a return to hangar based matchmaking.

  5. As a player who doesn't spend money, and who has been out gunned in almost every battle for as long as I can remeber -- while I obviously hate tankers -- I don't know who I hate more, Pix or the whales. Kudos to the Pix developers for making a truly sweet game, and kudos again for them if they can get rish doing it without actually hurting anyone. I can stop playing at any time if I get tired of fighting against the odds almost everytime I decide to play a few games. But, I would sooner play against a more experienced player with similar bots/arms than to go up against, as I often do, a hangar of Mk2 Lvl 12 bots/weapons, loaded with dash bots and spectres and inquisitors and all the latest and greatest arms while I'm running bots at level 9 with weapons that range from 7-10. And to be honest, I've been running up against maxed hangars since my bots/weapons were even lower than that.
No, my hatred, above all else, and it is sa for me to see it justified on these pages, are the people who spend money on the game. Now, spending money isn't bad IF you only compete against those who also spend money. That is fair competition. But you have to be onse really sad s.o.b. to enjoy beating on players with equipment that is a shadow of your own.
I imagine that we all fried an ant or two with a magnifying glass when we were kids -- but how many did you fry? In my case, if I remember correctly it was two. Once and then once more to confirm that the awesome power of the light wasn't a fluke. If you knew womeone who passed their whole day frying ants, or who couldn't wait to get some free time so they could go fry some ants -- day after day, week after week, month after month... That is not healthy.
If I had the money, I would have bought a bot or two, but when I realized that it gave me an advantage OVER other equally or greater skilled players, my self respect would have kicked in.
I play for the challenge, not to fry ants.
But yeah, Pix sucks, because I just keep rising in the rankings, despite the fact that it gets harder and harder, and now my silver income has slowed as I am up against the best gear in the game with nothing remotely suited to combatting it.
I'm sure I am not among the best players in the game, in fact I know it as this blog has taught me a great many things which I didn't know -- but on average, out of the masses of people who play this game -- I know for sure that if I was up against equal geared opponents -- I would be kicking some serious ass far beyind the 60% win rate I currently have.
But it will never happen as the weakass mofos who pay for the pleasure of feeling superior to someone who is not their inferior would leave the game if it dodn't provide them what they are looking for -- and that most certainly is NOT a challenge.

  6. SO THAT EVERYONE KNOWS PIXONIC WAS BOUGHT OUT BY MAIL.RU QUITE SOME TIME AGO FOR THE PURPOSE OF SQUEEZING ALL THE MONEY THEY COULD FROM IT!
THIS IS A COMMON PRACTICE OF MAIL.RU, THEY FIND EXTREMELY POPULAR GAMES AND BUY THE WHOLE COMPANY AT MOBSTER PRICES AND THEN INCREASE THE PAY TO PLAY FEATURES AS FAR AS THEY CAN.
WHAT REALLY MAKES ME MAD IS PIXONIC WAS PURCHASED FOR $30 MILLION BUT SINCE MAIL.RU TOOK OVER THIS GAME IS BRINGING IN MILLIONS EVERY MONTH-
THE HIGHEST I SEEN WAS PROJECTED AT $5,000,000 AND LAST MONTH $3,000,000-
I AM GUESSING THE ACTUAL GAME CREATORS GOT TOLD TO TAKE THIS LOW BALL MONEY AND HAND OVER YOUR COMPANY OR ELSE BAD THINGS WILL HAPPEN AND WE WILL STILL END UP WITH YOUR COMPANY.

THAT IS WHY THIS GAME TURNED TO SHIT!
