Crossfire On Canyon

Fellow Pilots,
Canyon is one of the oldest maps in War Robots.  But it still causes confusion among pilots.  There is broad agreement that it's an appropriate place for a long-range hangar.  The unobstructed sight lines are tailor made for weapons like Flux, Trebuchet, and Gekko.  With that said, snipers can't control territory, and beacon runners who can cover ground quickly are critical for your team's success.

First, let's have a look at the map.  Blue indicates the approximate positions from which your team should work.  YOU NEED BOTH.  To develop an effective crossfire from which your opponents can not hide, you must make them move laterally.  That's the job of the people on the right.  Then, your teammates near ECHO can hit them.  The red positions are thus marked for death!

Another great video by Professor Dutch shows the work from the right side of the map.  It's deadly effective for two reasons - damage done, and teamwork on the beacons.  As discussed previously, support robots are most helpful when they "soften" the enemy brawlers.  Don't waste too much time on enemy snipers UNLESS they are absolutely killing your beacon runners.

Note that I'm working throughout this battle to develop a crossfire with Duke, and to secure beacons.  It's a squad battle with Discordians, so it isn't an easy fight!

As far as beacon strategy goes, Canyon works exactly like Dead City.  Get your two (in this case, DELTA and ECHO), and use the "option play" between enemy flank (BRAVO) and center (CHARLIE).  Attacking BRAVO opens up the center for your team.

I never use a long range hangar unless I'm supporting five other players who don't have any such capability.  In other words, I won't drop a Trebuchet boat unless I know via comms that no one else on my team will do the same.  My Dragoon Bulwark is my longest range robot, and I usually run everything else as knife fighters for inside 300m.  I work (generally) from my slowest robot to my fastest, as I believe that speed provides its greatest advantage late in games.  In the example video, Duke is working from longest range to shortest - from sniper to brawler.

In summary, developing a crossfire on the Canyon map (try it on Yamantau and Castle too!) is a great strategy to allow your team freedom of movement through dangerous territory.  It's reason #347 among thousands of good ones to get in a clan and use Discord or other communication tools.

Have a great weekend and stay warm!
