Sniper Strider

Fellow Pilots,
When we first got the new set of little guys for testing, we reported back to you about Mercury, Pursuer, and Hellburner, but we neglected Strider.  At the time, we noted that Pursuer was a direct Stalker replacement.  That's totally true, nothing new to report.  Hellburner is for trolling, nothing's changed there.  Mercury, even though it adds a cool explosive effect to the Descend ability, is far weaker than Inquisitor or Spectre, and few pilots use it.

Strider, however, is getting some play in the upper leagues.  It doesn't stride as much as it slides ... it has five dashes.  It gets anywhere fast, to be sure, so you can run beacons.  At the U, however, we think Strider is most dangerous as a dash-in/dash-out sniper.

Here's a video with all four robots in an unfortunate draw - a Team Death Match on Yamantau.  The Strider was the only one with range, and it was a major problem for the red team until I got it killed to show you the other bots.

On the interwebs, some of you have been asking me for a "free account." I assume you mean the media accounts provided by Pixonic to YouTubers like Adriannnn, Manni, Stew Pendous, and the like.  First, I don't have one.  See explanatory note below.  Second, I don't give them ... the company does that.  If you want free stuff, there are two good ways to get it.  First, you could play around the clock.  The other way is by creating content about the game (either written or video), but that takes a fair bit of effort too!

Happy Monday,
Doc Yat and the team at the U

  1. I would have thought that Strider would have been better suited for a more Stalker like approach. Dashing in, dealing a massive amount of damage, possibly using Exodus and Pinatas, then dashing out to recharge the weapons.

    1. That seems to be the design intent. However, I haven't been fast enough to get away from heavier, stronger brawlers. At the U, we like experimental builds, as you know. If you can live without Fury-type damage output, the Sniper Strider is a blast and VERY tough for your enemies to kill.

    2. Would you recommend a Dragon or other energy weapon for the sniper build, or a Tempest or other kinetic and explosive weapons?

    3. I like Treb and Arbs for the speed, but if you miss you have to wait a long time! Dragoon is amazing, but you have to get pretty close and there isn't a light weapon match. I have used Tempest and Molots too, and they are OK. You lose the potential for a quick kill but you gain shield knockdown utility and have good range.

    4. I use a strider with dragoon, one of my strongest bots. I pair it with pins. While this seems strange, the damage output is better than gekkos, and seeing as how I don't have sparks, magnums would be way too close range for me. Pins have a good amount of range, and the splash damage helps a lot when finishing off bots that have found some cover to hide behind. I am thinking about replacing the pins with shredders though.
