I Do Not Love Forums

Fellow Pilots,
Don't forget the last week of the Art of the Assist is ON!  Check out the final challenge here, and enter to win a robot of your choice.

The U, as you know, is a place for entertainment masquerading as education.  I'd really like to put it on a .edu web address - and have keg parties!  In seriousness, a blog is a good format for the U.  Like real universities, the tenured faculty can share their opinions without fear of retaliation, discipline, or forum trolling.

There is a reason I don't love forums. To wit:
"You do realize that a lvl8 MKII Tempest does less damage than a regular lvl12 Tempest right?? Farm 3 tempest back to lvl11 is not an easy job. My hats off for you investing 1500 gold just to bring your Fury damage to the worst point possible. Remember always MKII a single weapon to at least lvl11 first before MKII a second weapon."

Ugh. What I usually do first with this kind of thing is say, "hey, real person on this end." And then I will sometimes indicate where they went wrong. In this case, the assumptions are the problem. They often are.

Image result for assume makes ass of u and me

So, while the premise of the comment isn't entirely crazy, it is wrong. Sure, in a perfect world, people would level up all their weapons from 12 to Mark 2 level 10 or 11 in one move. But that would take tens of thousands in gold and hundreds of millions in silver.

Some pilots start the journey with one Tempest and roll like this:

Or like this:

I'm sure some lucky ones obtain two at the same time and they go Natasha style:

Or Carnage style ... you get the picture. As we learned in a previous post, I was much luckier than any of the above examples - Pixonic provided me with three brand-new Tempests at Mark 2, level 8, all at the same time. If you don't like the term "luck," go with "hard work." Over the past several months, for reasons no one fully understands, I've written half a dozen pieces for Pixonic and I'm approaching 50 here at the U.

All of this is really to make a very simple point - if you DO love the forums, please treat your online colleagues with decency. You don't really need to point it out if you believe they did the dumbest thing possible. In fact, it would go a long way to ask a simple question. In this case, "hey, how did you wind up with three Tempests at Mark 2/level 9?" The answer might be REALLY interesting. It might be a good story. You might even learn from it!

Have a great week,
Dr. Yat

PS: watch for my 11-year old's account, "Dr. Who Dat," in Bronze league. Especially if you are tanking and have no business being in Bronze league! I'm rocking level 6 and below gear, and I'm seeing HeyCheese and Shocktrains. If you do that to people, you suck. Period.
