The White Whale

Fellow pilots,
Don't forget the "Art of The Assist" is ON - check out the contest here.

I've seen lots of HUGE whales in my time, but this one really caught my eye.  According to a clan mate, the name is something like "Poison In Life."  Anyway, four hangars of fully maxed MK2 gear:

Another very striking statistic is the win number - only 743.  I've been playing almost two years and have 5500 and counting.  This "Poison In Life" person is a newbie.  And it really showed on the battlefield.  Along with my friends from SOS Hit Squad, I faced Poison's hangar #2, and wiped it out.  The reds were also blessed to have a tanker on their team.

Poison in Life, you aren't a champion. My man (or woman) Raptor71 is, though - check this out.

John Battle, a cousin of John Legend, is a champ.  Same with T.E.P.E.S. on the red team.  These players don't care what damage they hang on you - they play to win.  After 10,000 wins, you know what to do, and even if your gear doesn't necessarily match up well with the whales, you make it happen.  Hats off to you.

I got a message on Reddit from a self-described "recidivist tanker."  The word recidivist means,
literally, a repeat offender. He said, "it's time you stopped letting tankers get under your skin so badly ... if losing a battle as a result of some dumb kid is enough to ruin your day, you should probably start reconsidering your priorities." To be honest, I don't know exactly how I feel about tankers. I'd rather play in Expert League myself - I hate "Shocktrain City" as much as anybody. I play in a clan where you get kicked out for tanking, but I have to play against clans like DOPE where it is widely accepted.

In this instance, these four tankers gave me a win by staying out of the match until my squad had obliterated the two randoms on their team. So I wasn't the angry one; I just played the cards I was dealt (a five vs. two massacre). It was REALLY weird to have these guys drop in for the last 10-20 seconds.

And they are, as you can see, headed all the way down to play against the Destriers and Cossacks. If you are reading this, please post a comment. How should Dr. Yat and War Robots University feel about tankers and tanking? Are you tired of hearing about them on this blog?

Informational: I've changed my clan name from "Aurora Doctrina" to "WR University," with the tag [theU].  We remain affiliated and sharing a Discord server with Aurora Nova.  Also, my pilot name is now "Dr. Yat," with the New Orleans-inspired greeting "Where y'at?" now retired.  Good luck with the Lunar New Year event, and see you on the battlefield!

Call me Captain Ahab,
Dr. Yat

  1. Dr. Yat,
In response to your question about how readers of your blog feel about hearing/reading the topic of tankers and tanking, I for one, am extremely grateful for your coverage of the topic. They are ruining the game and even caused Manni-Gaming to drop the F-bomb during a YouTube live stream with 1,000 viewers! It is so frustrating when players are "hung out to dry" because a team-mate (or mates) have abandoned the team.
I greatly appreciate your attention with the tanker/tanking issue as you are one of the few with a voice who have taken it upon themselves to take a stand and call out these dishonorable players. I feel it is a very important issue as it has a real potential of driving away the incoming player base.
I feel it is very important to stay positive with War Robots, but I feel that tankers/tanking is an issue that must be taken seriously and dealt with very harshly. Adrian once commented that at some point a players account should be banned. That is certainly a very harsh treatment but I feel it sends a message as to how an experienced, well known player feels about the topic and how severe the penalty needs to be to prevent it from continuing to go on.
I play 1 or 2 games a day on each platform (gold/diamond league) and always run across at least 1 tanker per game, usually 2, and frequently clan-mates. That potentially translates to roughly 10-15% of all players in those leagues tanking, showing just how serious the issue is becoming and how 50% of the games being played are adversely affecting everyone's ability to play and have fun with a fighting chance to win.
On January 24, 2018 Foggy1Gaming posted a video and made what I feel was a fantastic statement....07:36 "It's just not cool to tank, and that's my PSA for the week.".....What a great Public Service announcement! Wouldn't that be great for a bunch of You-Tubers to make a PSA video and compile it like the Pixonic Merry Christmas video.
Unfortunately, as long as it is allowed, players will continue to exploit this "loophole" in the game-play; But it doesn't mean the rest of us should accept it and not use our voices to speak out about it.
Thank You very much and I hope you continue to include conversations about tanker/tanking in your future Blog posts.

  2. I really hope it's a stolen credit card and not actually "real money" that Poison in Life spent. That's crazy if you actually spent that much money.

  3. I myself hate tankers. I have been playing for a little over a year and have clawed my way up to Expert with an average win rate of about 60%. I have spent months saving up gold to buy the BritBots, fifth slot and Orkans. Then I see a player with MK2 weapons and all the Dash Bots with a second hanger spawn, only to explode and leave the battle, causing my team to lose. So yes, you could say I hate tankers and whalers.
    All the best,
    Pilot Q5EDRYW

  4. Hey Hey :D you know what I have faced this player too, yesterday and it got my attention too! now he has 5 hangers(not 4) and the 5th has SPECTRES! and I read your post in the AD server and I posted some screenshots there! lol!

  5. I have sent pics of DOPE tanking and got the cookie cutter reply of "Thank you for reporting such players. We will make sure to investigate them and take appropriate action"... meaning if you wrote an article specifically about DOPE then nothing was done, nothing has ever been done, and nothing will ever be done. Because seal clubbing is it's own reward, and PIX enjoys the revenue that comes from tankers.

  6. Keep fighting the good fight, my man. You have a forum to spotlight what is a festering problem with the game and should keep it up. If nothing ever gets done and regular players eventually walk away from the game if/ when the play experience gets so bad, it won't be because you didn't try to stop it.
