Want to Know How Good You REALLY Are At War Robots?
Fellow Pilots,
We've probably all asked ourselves the same question: "How good am I at War Robots?"
Don't be insulted by the answer: average. I'll spare you the statistics dissertation; it's sufficient to say that almost everyone is within a narrow range of ability/aptitude for video games. You may have had some practice - maybe a LOT of practice - but there's a strong likelihood that most players have similar reflexes, intelligence, and game-related knowledge.
Enter, Skirmish mode. Every participant gets the same robots at the same level. Without ratings, gold, repair costs, or long range weapons, we can determine how talented Lordex really is. Come out, come out, wherever you are ...
Exit stage left, excuses. Skirmish is a great teacher because we can see how other players approach the game. Tactical decisions must be made as they are in chess, with mirror image teams and every move plainly observable by your opponent. In short, winning depends on the pilots.
In case you haven't seen it, here's a video of Skirmish mode game play:
What it means
It's HUUUUUUGE. Mobile games have operated in a strange world. They don't get downloaded if they aren't free, but free games don't get developed into awesome experiences. People don't pay if there's no good reason in the game. Players quit when they hit a "pay wall," and they share their negative experiences on the interwebs. Skirmish mode represents a potential sea change in this dynamic.
On the content creators' Discord server, we've been told that Skirmish is "likely to stay for a while. We have at least 2 more of them lined up for the next weeks, got all kinds of wonky ideas." Sounds amazing to me. If I look in my crystal ball, I can envision a future in which Pixonic has broken through the tension between "pay to win" and "free to play." If Skirmish mode remains, free players can enjoy virtually every aspect of the game AND paying players can build insane hangars to their heart's content.
Scourge vs. Shocktrain test
Anakin's tests are always worth watching. Many players bet the farm on Shocktrains, and it is a devastating weapon indeed. Don't count Scourge out, though. Even 500 meters away, it does about twice as much damage as Shocktrain. At 300m, four Scourges can destroy a Lancelot in less than ten seconds. Ouch.

Related: Anakin's obviously a Spanish speaker. A reader of this blog has invited us to visit his, which operates in both Espanol y Ingles. Good luck, Mario, and I hope many people enjoy it!
Have a great week, and I'll look for you in the many skirmishes to come!
