Thursday is the Day Before Friday: New Game Modes Pixonic Should Make. Obviously.

War Robots, the greatest mobile game/mechanized Capture the Flag in the history of mankind, introduced "Beacon Rush" as a variation in 2017.  At first, I loved the idea, but it served chiefly to make me realize how much better I liked Domination.  I would respectfully submit that Beacon Rush should be called "Second and Third Chances - No Problem!"  Because it allows a destroyed pilot to spawn on a beacon that he failed to defend, it makes territory much harder to liberate/capture, and much easier to sit on and protect.

What we used to call "War Robots" then had two variations - "Domination," or "the old way," and "Beacon Rush," or "Come and Get It So I Can Spawn My Ancilot After You Kill My Stalker."

Then came "Team Death Match."  Instinctively, I knew I would hate this one.  As you know, the University abhors camping because the campers are game bystanders, leaving the beacons for somebody else to deal with.  Almost immediately, TDM became inundated with Gekkos, Trebuchets, and even the occasional Nashorn sniper resurrected from the dead.  With "King of the Hill" in testing, and who knows what else being cooked up by those crazy Russians, I thought it would be a good idea to suggest some other possibilities, like:

Clown Car: would allow as many teammates as you can get on a squad into the battle.  Might get kind of crowded!

Rugby Mode: both teams spawn at the center and try to break free to score the other beacons.

Twisted Metal: like the old Incognito game, you'd have only one vehicle (robot).  Choose wisely!

    Bragging Rights: all robots and weapons become level 9.  Like the old IROC series of races, in which every driver had the same car and mechanics, this would be a true test of skill.

    Other ideas, even though they will be less incandescently brilliant than those described above, if posted in the comments, will be shared with Pixonic. For real!!

    Today's fun video is me (Master's 1) and my buddy Vaughn Solo, running a level 19/bronze league iOS account.  He normally plays Android/FB Gameroom, but I guess he wanted to see what happens to a level 1 Rogatka when the champs have a go at it.  Predictably, we got annihilated twice, but we busted them up in the third one.  Sorry, the video ended just before the knockout, but you will get the picture.  No matter who you are, if you get four beacons and hold them, you win.

    1. A gamemode that I've heard suggested (I did not come up with this, but I forgot who did. Someone on discord) is a 1 vs 6, where the 1 has level twelve bots/weapons and the 6 have level one (or six) bots/weapons. From there its a team deathmatch.

      I have a variation idea, sort of crossing the above with King of the Hill. Starts essentially the same as the above, but the 1 gains points over time as long as they survive, independent of kills. Whichever pilot manages to land the killing blow gets upgraded to level twelve bots/weapons and begins to gain points over time, with the former scorer demoted to level six bots/weapons and put on the team of the remaining pilots.
      The first pilot to a certain number of points wins (or highest number of points, if the clock runs out)!
      This would introduce new tactics and increase the importance of both attacking and defending, and some interesting new tactical decisions to make. Do you dive at the max robot to stop their point gain quickly, or hang back to conserve hitpoints and allow them more points?

      Not exactly a gamemode, this idea is more like a variation of custom matches. This would swap pilots hangars for those of other pilots in the battle. You get the hangar of a random other pilot from that match. It would be extra fun if their name stays with their hangars, so you can find and beat your imposter on the battlefield.
      It would expose players to different hangars than the one they set up. This could be a good thing in that, if someone wants to know what a bot or is like before committing their silver, gold, workshop points, or components, all they have to do is find that weapon or robot in one of these matches. Furthermore, players would be encouraged to try out different playstyles (like if that camper pilot gets a hangar of brawlers) and tactics. For clans, this could also be used to help train or practice coordinated movements, with members better understanding the methodology behind their allies' hangars. Also, it'd just be fun.
      The drawbacks of this probably include not getting any rewards from the battle, and not using the hangar that you've spent your time and energy upgrading to your liking.
      I like the name 'Mad Tea Party' for this gamemode.

    2. Guard the Convoy - like it sounds you have a rolling objective that your team must protect until it enters a safe zone. The other team is, of course, trying to kill it

      Protect the Reactor - One team defends, the other attacks. There are 5 points that must be destroyed for the reactor to overload and explode. If the defenders protect all 5 points until time is out, they win. If the attackers manage to take out all 5 there is a satisfyingly large explosion and THEY win.

      Free For All - no teams, everyone else that isn't you is fair game. Maybe call it Last Man Standing as that person wins.

      The Enemy of my Enemy - Now you've got Red, Blue, and Yellow. 18 'bots on the field instead of 12 for some hot 3-way action.

      Touch Down - One team has "the ball" which is a magnetic sphere that sticks to your 'bot. You can pass that ball to others on your team by bumping into them. The objective is to get the ball into the other team's end zone. If you destroy the ball carrier the ball is dropped where it lies until someone else runs over and "picks" it up.

      The Mole - There is one person on your team that is actually on the other team. They are in disguise. They can choose to drop their disguise when they want, but until then they cannot be targeted by the other team.

      And the perennial:

      Capture the Flag - you actually have to battle to the enemy side, grab their flag by running over it and then running it back to your flag. If they steal your flag you have to grab it back before you can score.

An ffa match would have to be revamped very thoroughly. on a normal map, What's to stop someone with a hangar of all stalkers/rogatkas/cossacks from hiding at the edges of the map and moving fast enough to avoid conflict? they'd be left at near-end game with a full or nearly full hangar against 1 or 2 badly damaged robots with depleted hangars and win.

    4. 1) Free weapons mode - Swap weapons from any dead robots including yours. Once per day only
      2) Dead bots walk mode - Swap your robot with any dead bots. Once per day only
      3) Zombie bot mode - Team with most zombots kills wins. Zombots can kill you too...and reds. Zombots spawn anywhere randomly. Enemy bot killed not included in count. Big maps only. Be afraid...be VERY AFRAID!

    5. Sumo mode: everyone starts in a circle in the center of the map. A red circle drawn on the ground defines the boundary. Leaving the boundary instakills your bot. Your goal is to eliminate the enemy team, either by blasting them with weapons or forcing them out of bounds. Possible variation: no weapons allowed, you may only use pushing out of bounds to win

      1. Good idea, but they would have to makethe hitboxes solid. Robots kinda slide off each other, and dont have the power to push unless its a heavy against a light.

    6. Payload: A large hovercraft follows a set track, around, across, or diagonally across the maps depending on the size. The defending team must keep the opposing team 100m away from the payload. when they die, they respawn at the closest beacon location. (There are no beacons, but spawn points in close locations like tdm.) The opposing team must stop the hovercraft by coming within 100m of it. when it stops, it takes damage. Attacking team spawns at their home spawn.

      Quarterback: A robot must get to the enemies "End Zone" The opposing team has 4 spawns evenly spaced across their endzone. Robots must cross the map to get to the enemies endzone and stay there for 15 seconds to win.

      Juggernaut mode: It's 2v6, and 2 of the robots have level 8 weapons. Opponent team has lvl 4 and normal health. the juggernauts have max robot health. Health may need to be increased to more than max health.

      Bot game: This is FFA with a twist. You start off as a Destrier. Once you get a kill, you progress to a Cossack. Then:

    7. Incognito mode: no name tags are shown. Any paint jobs are replaced with a single color to show your team (Ex: All of your teammates would appear to have a blue paint job, all reds would look like they have a red paint job). This game mode would cater to hit and run bots, or ambushers, as nobody knows where anyone else is until it's too late!
