Beacon Rush Party Weekend!

Fellow Pilots,
In news that we first reported Tuesday, War Robots will have two "matchmaking queues" beginning this weekend.  One will be randomly selected Domination, King of the Hill, and Team Death Match; the other will be Beacon Rush.  We're now getting word that this configuration will stay at least through March.

The 3.7 update, featuring a "weapon rebalance," new robots, and maybe even the Carrier map, is live on Android, so we can expect it next week for iOS.

Since the introduction of multiple modes, we've had the following queues:
  1. Domination  -or-  Beacon Rush
  2. Domination/Beacon Rush  -or-  Team Death Match
  3. Domination/TDM/BR  -or-  King of the Hill
  4. And now, Beacon Rush  -or-  Domination/TDM/KOTH
If you are following the pattern, it means that all the "new" modes have had stand-alone time against the others.

Pixonic told the content creators that it could only provide two queues, otherwise player pools would be too small and wait times too long.  We have no way of verifying this claim independently; to my knowledge, Pixonic has never shared the breakdown of how many players selected which mode in each case.  They have said that "data is king" at the company, so I will ask for this information and hope to share it with you.

Because my favorite, by far, is Domination, it will bum me out a bit that Beacon Rush is the stand-alone.  Like Adriannnnnn, who will be live streaming, I'll play BR exclusively.  This is because I detest TDM with a red passion.  In fact, had I come across War Robots in this mode (no beacons), I'm not sure I would have played it beyond a couple battles.  For me, the "chess match" aspect of Domination is much more interesting than any other mode - it prioritizes planning and execution, and solid knowledge of the maps and robot capabilities.

For your viewing pleasure, here's a recent game in BR:

Like the game we featured on Tuesday, you can use BR mode to drop a long range robot and fire away at the enemy beacons as they spawn.

Regarding the new look of the blog, please share a comment on your impressions.  This can be anywhere - here, Reddit, or the Forum.  With the goal of making this site as readable as possible, I switched templates, but also took the time to clean up some old formatting issues, so it should be easy to improve.  Thanks!

Have a great weekend; I'm shooting for M-W-F posts next week.

Until the introduction of the Greek bots, Pixonic provided component items to War Robots University's professors/pilots for review.  The content of War Robots U is created and edited by its authors exclusively.  For an explanation of the relationship between Pixonic and the U, read this post!

The U is not just a blog ... we are also iOS clans #48669, #141459, and #139479.  We are always looking for champion-league pilots, and welcome skilled communicators from around the world.

PS: It took me a long time to get started on this, which is strange, because I can't stand tankers, but the U has finally begun reporting them on the official form.  You can find the Tanker Reporting form here, and it is very easy to use (all you need is pilot ID, platform, and a screenshot).  The lucky losers are "Panda" and "KlimSpb."

And then I reported ALL of these clowns, some of whom were already down in silver league clubbing the seals ...

  1. Hi Dr. Yat, (Paul)
Whenever I hear in War Robots about "player pools would be too small and wait times too long", when reading about separate queues for all game modes, I often find myself wondering about the reported over 30 million downloads of the game (which Pixonic posted over a year ago, and surely that number has risen) ?
I, like you, also share a passion for Domination mode. It was the mode most every seasoned player was introduced to and was exclusive for years until the other modes were brought into the game. I understand the attraction of Beacon Rush but I still can't wrap my brain around what makes TDM attractive to players.
In the picture you posted with what appears to be a full squad tanking, I have learned of this new exploit "farming for ads" and I just can't understand how the WR servers are unable to flag this new style of game-play and penalize the players.
I understand there are whispers of your making a cameo appearance in an upcoming installment of Talking War Robots. Can't wait!
Thanx so much for your blog, I always find the information to be very worthy of taking the time to read.

  2. Hey, I’m a huge fan of this blog, and I was wondering if you’d be interested in having a guest writer for a day? I’d love to do an article for you on how to survive as a free to play pilot!

    1. Thanks Dom! I'm trying to help Pix with the tanker problem (by reporting them and offering structural solutions) and I hope others are as well.

Carter, yes, please! Email me: paul.lemle at gmail.com.
