Staying Alive

Fellow Pilots,
First, the soundtrack ...

You're welcome.

Now, the U's opinion about leveling robots ahead of weapons has been the subject of much debate.  Whether you agree or not, staying alive is critical for your team's success.  In the lab today, we provide two examples.

First, Dr. Yat spawns an Inquisitor on a contested beacon, then uses its stealth ability plus available cover to protect it as long as possible.  The Inquisitor is a damage machine ... but only as long as it survives.  We suggest using "descend" the way a good Griffin pilot jumps out of danger instead of into it.

Second, Raijin is a favorite of mine because of the tremendous health.  The longer you can stay on the field of battle, the more havoc you can wreak with your weapons.  While it immobilizes you, activating the spider's "bastion mode" raises powerful shields and gives you a major (30%; think three levels up) boost in damage.  Here, a whole group of enemies learns about it the hard way.

No matter how you get it done, survival is key in War Robots.  The U believes in maxing your robots, obviously.  Did you remember that your built-in shields get stronger as well?  It's like upgrading the robot and a weapon at the same time for one price.  Thus, consider prioritizing your Britbots (Gareth, Galahad, Lancelot), the workshop robots excepting Stalker, plus Haechi and Bulgasari.

Have a great day,
Dr. Zoso

  1. I am assuming that the same would apply to an energy shield, either an Ancile or a robot equipped with one. Is it worthwhile to level a robot to MK2? And if you do get a robot to MK2 does the speed increase along side the health?

    1. YES! We love leveling robots all the way up, and made a post about doing so (War Economics: level weapons or robots first?). The speed, however, stops improving on all robots at level 9. MK2 does not offer any improvements, and you suffer slower speeds until you get to MK2/9.

    1. Hey Grimm, you should give it a try. If readers thought we meant their Destriers were still viable in the League of Legends, they weren't quite getting the point. Take your favorite robot (I started with a HeyChee and a Lancelot) and max it out - go all the way to MK2/12. I guarantee you will like how it feels. You still get spitroasted when enough Orkans are pointed your way, but in MANY cases you will be still there with a couple thousand, hundred, or even less health ... and you'll get the last word in a LOT of battles. I'll do a more complete post on it next week, but my best hangar has five robots at 12 or MK2/2, about half the weapons at 12, and the other half of the weapons at 10 or MK2/10. I am currently working on getting all the weapons to at least 12, but the introductions of Tempests and Dragoons messed me up. Heavy weapons take forever, and I just HAD to have Dragoons in the lineup once I felt the power!

It’s not that I’m debating upgrading robots over weapons, I’m saying it’s just plain wrong. Here’s why: 1. Cover is free, if you use it effectively you don’t have to worry about having underleveled robots.
1a. However the same can not be said about weapons, you could be there all day shooting and not make a dent with underleveled weapons.
    2. Weapons can switch between any robot, so starting with the right weapons on lights or medium robots and then moving the over to a heavy later in your WR career saves you a lot of time and silver.
2a. When was the last time you used or saw a effective cossack or destrier above expert league? No real sense in upgrading things that aren’t contributing to your final hangar layout.

These are the biggest reasons why I never suggest upgrading a robot past level 9-10.. ps, I have gotten into champion with level 9 bots and level 12 Weapons. I doubt you can with the other way around.

    1. It really is a personal choice. I like leveling robots before weapons, but I also level my weapons on a regular basis. Both of these arguments have merit and I would have to say that you have to choose for yourself.
